Hi Tim, why would you oppose investment in alternative energy to get the industry going?

In economics, it is well known that government can play a very big role in overcoming barriers to entry into a new industry. Governments have been known to act as incubators for new industries, until they can stand on there own.

Here's one example. What has been the biggest creator of wealth in our lifetimes? Answer: the Internet. Who paid for it, invented it, nurtured it, and then eventually released it to the world after the US had captured the lion's share of this new industry? The US Government, of course. DARPA, and agency of the US paid for an invented the Internet.

Can you imagine if there were people like you that refused to support the Internet? The lesson is that the government can do some good in helping us create and incubate new industries. They can also act as an accelerant of new industries that are strategic to our national or economic security. Alternative energy clearly falls into both of those categories. Government support on those are a no-brainer for anyone looking to secure America's future.
