"And that will continue to diminish his power, especially if he's called upon to continue busting prostitution rings."

I agree with that. For me, it was an act of stupidity or arrogance. And I lean towards the latter. And given the fact that it was his attempts to cover his tracks that triggered the investigation...

Personally, I don't care if he wants to hire prostitutes. As long as the prostitutes aren't minors or forced into it, that is. But Spitzer built a career on breaking up prostitution rings. Either they are bad, in which case why is he hiring them? Or they aren't.

Having read up on it, the Mann Act needs to be ditched. While the intentions seem to have been good, it has been interpreted in ways that are horrible. Given the case law that has sprung up around it, it needs to go. The way it is written, you could hire a prostitute in Rhode Island, where it is legal to an extent, fly to Las Vegas, where it is legal to a much greater extent, and get busted if the feds were so inclined. Not to mention driving to another state with your girlfriend with lascivious intent.

Spitzer just ignored a law millions of men ignore every day. We all ignore laws we consider ridiculous.
