"The converse is that those who didn't pay their dues have not earned their chance so they are resented as line jumpers."

I generally assume everyone's life is a hellish ordeal unless proven otherwise ... you think a particular person has had an easy time of it and resent him for it then later you find out his life is a hellish ordeal and it makes you feel like a schmuck for resenting him. Better to just assume everyone's life is sheer hell, that way there is never a reason to resent anyone.

Lane3;

You don't get any prize in return for paying your dues but a chance

You get a chance by being born in America and having laws that protect you as a woman. There are some women like Ferraro and now it seems Hillary who think they are entitled. The phrase "paying your dues" most certainly implies something BEYOND "earning" the candidacy. What you think blacks haven't "paid their dues"? My gosh this line of thinking by women escapes me.

You earn a high school degree by "paying your dues" But that doesn't give you the right to be class valedictorian because of your gender......or race. You earn that right. Annnd you don't earn it by pouting in the bathroom.
