This whole argument only works in "games" with set rules. I understand why people who play by rules get upset with "upstarts"- but if the "game" is essentially one that has no "real" rules- then it is illogical to be mad at the lucky and talented upstart who thinks and plays outside the box.

Lane, re: "paying your dues."

When someone begins to lament that someone else hasn't "paid their dues," that's just another way of saying "not fair, I've worked hard and I deserve it."

Most people who think that hard work should be rewarded over merit are the people you don't want in leadership positions. Ed
