I don't think he is motivated by that. I think he personally has transcended it. I think his church has not- which is understandable, since the black community has some huge problems which have not (thus far) been solved very well by "white" leadership- so I think we need to see what the black community can do. The Great Society effort made some things better- but it sure made parts of the black community dysfunctional.

Maybe he has, but not everyone in his community has. If he wants to continue to support those who have yet to transcend that need, I will applaud him for that.

I'm thinking it's similar to people in Alcoholics Anonymous who have been sober for a long time, but still go to meetings. They may not need the meetings to stay sober anymore, but they go in order to share their experience with newcomers.
