Disillusionment with the system is not a very pretty picture, is it

No. Personally, I lost my job in February and it's ok with me. My spouse has a relatively secure job paying a decent enough wage for us both to live and it's less than a mile from our home. I feel no need to go find a job. I'm busy re-learning how to grow tomatoes and keeping an eye on our investments and the horizon.

IMHO, it has taken most Americans way too long to wake up. I don't blame them. Many in my own family are still sleeping and beyond an occasional email poke from me, there is no reason for them to look around. I think that in their eyes, I have grown a tinfoil hat.

I attribute their lack of concern to the American dream that they share. It makes them impervious to reality until the cold waters actually hit them in the face. That event is on the horizon for many so in spite of the fact that they think I'm nuts, I still send out that occasional email poke in an attempt to awaken them from their complacency. Who knows, one of these days one of them might actually pay attention.
