It's Comcast's role to line up media companies like ABC and NBC. The Hardware and software doesn't care who the content is, just that the mechanics work. Real Time storage. Enough capacity to allow x number of concurrent users, storing and rewriting without killing a session. Making sure that when a subscriber Press's pause it doesn't disconnect and can resume. No small feet. Then it's software to insert new commercials or even targeted commercials before, then during, the show usage plus disable of fast forward. It's software to measure who views the show and what commercials were watched for chargeback and ratings. The landscape is still screwed up at the settops level. FCC regulations, open architecture and inventory has it all messed up. There is a dozen different types. It makes 6000 shows on Comcast is unwatchable. The program guides show series as sequential numbers. Episode #1, #2, #3.
