Why not keep medical records on a USB thumb drive secured with our own fingerprints or some similar technology? Medical providers could be required to add the date they generated and that way the individual would be the owner of their own health records rather than have some jerk doctor refuse to transmit records unless an outrageous fee is paid to them. It could also give the patient the ability to decide which portion of their records to allow each provider to see.

Servers get hacked every day. The more valuable the data the more subject to intrusion attempts it is likely to be.

Removable portable data is only available when the volume has been mounted.
