You would be right (but I think mostly about the married to Bill part).

IMO the truth should not be offensive. It should be discussed even if the goal of telling it wasn't very noble as in this case. That's the point. I don't think the fact that others might use the same poor tactic justifies suppression of honest discussion. This particular event was really no big deal. However, truth suppression and political correctness are sometimes used in damaging ways by people that want to advance an agenda.
