Nice to see you pop in again, Ike...

I have been checking in and reading your articles on the vine often. I like your comments in this newer article:
iqballatif.newsvine.com

Within milliseconds after reading your "sermons of hate" comment I had
a grainy, old black and white film of Hitler on the podium running in my memory...that was a state sponsored, industrialized hate factory. As was Japan, whose leader was a 'god' on earth. Power corrupts, and it seems as there is nothing more corrupting than a combination of religious and political power...

But in the case of Rev. Wright, it is more a case of pandering of violence...or 'violence as entertainment' similar to many movies and bad TV shows. He seems to act as if his ambition is not moral guidance, but just in keeping the seats filled with paying, entertained customers.

Your writing "I own up without remorse my political inclinations although my views are not in currency with my people..." tells me that you are not 'cut out' to be a politician...

And concerning this article and Pakistani violence:
iqballatif.newsvine.com

America did not become a truly united states until having to endure the civil war...just like some individuals must undergo chemotherapy and radiation to kill the cancer before it kills them, so do some nations. But I really think Pakistan will come out of this - border to border - a true nation where all citizens will remember and respect the sacrifice it took to survive and prosper.

Take care, Jerry

A Saudi first: Gender-mixed Mozart concert

Performance may signal easing of restrictions in devout Muslim kingdom

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - It's probably as revolutionary and groundbreaking as Mozart gets these days. A German-based quartet staged Saudi Arabia's first-ever performance of European classical music in a public venue before a mixed gender audience.

The concert, held at a government-run cultural center, broke many taboos in a country where public music is banned and the sexes are segregated even in lines at fast food outlets.

The Friday night performance could be yet another indication that this strict Muslim kingdom is looking to open up to the rest of the world.

A few weeks ago, King Abdullah made an unprecedented call for interfaith dialogue with Christians and Jews — the first such proposal from a nation that forbids non-Muslim religious services and symbols.

"The concert is a sign that things are changing rapidly here," said German Ambassador Juergen Krieghoff, whose embassy sponsored the concert as part of the first-ever German Cultural Weeks in Saudi Arabia...
