So it takes a war to do R&D on stuff we should be R&Ding anyway? Interesting. Seems to me we could just save a bunch of both money and lives and just have better foresight.

What you claim for the post-Vietnam era never happened, at least not as a result of the war.
While the US was looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, the world as a whole continued to turn.
