Since the greed peak in early 2007 (almost concurrent with the Armstrong cycle peak), fear has been growing and at the 3rd steepest rate since 1990.

Growing fear makes folk go with much safer and "protected" investments and with more basic items like food and other actual tangibles as opposed to paper based items like most stocks. Gold, "refuges" and other similar items like gov't bills & bonds are the beneficiaries.
