I would say rather that its the release of information is the negative thing itself. Its not really emotion vs. reason. A reason would amount "X is bad because of Y", but then you can have the same discussion about Y. I think the point is that Peter and many other people see the privacy issue as a problem itself.

He may also have additional reasons. But any reason, even if it has another reason, has to have some root problem that doesn't need another reason to be a problem.

Besides the rational desire to keep my personal medical history personal, publishing our medical history carries the very real risk of identity theft. It is one more place where thieves can go to cross reference our name, address, age and various other personal information.
