Agreed. You've raised an excellent point here.

The Depression was a period when people had lost their belief in themselves and in their future. When WW2 forced people to take action, suddenly great things could be achieved using the same available resources. The US in 1945 was not the same country as the US in 1935 - what had changed was the spirit.

I hope that the current problems in the financial markets don't follow the same trajectory that led to the Depression. We are going to need our confidence to effectively deal with the coming challenges in energy and climate.
