It's welfare if the govt. helps you, and right wingers say, "let the bum sink or swim on his own." It is saving the financial system if they help Bear Stearns, and the right wingers, and many left wingers, say, "oh, no, we can't have a big co. go under." If the govt. wants to bail out big cos., they should regulate their risk taking.

BTW, it's pretty obvious now that letting regular banks and investment banks merge was a bad idea.
