TV Evangelists and church pastors make more money the bigger their church membership. They know their constituency and know what sells in their church and keeps the money flowing.

Wrights church focused on hatred and divisiveness because that is what they wanted to hear. Otherwise they wouldn't have tolerated it. The crowd was eating up every word Wright spewed.
