Interesting. And it's supposedly, light sweet crude...would certainly make the economics of oil sands look a bit ridiculous.

If I was interested in investing in this I think I would gyrate to the service end. Maybe some smaller players as well. Developing the Bakken infers drilling, drilling, and more drilling, and over a long period of time. It does not appear these are anything close to high volume wells. Maybe they can be if they do enough side tracks. Also suspect the bigger wells need downhole pumps, but do not know for sure.

In the middle of the oil retrenchment period down hole pump companies all but disappeared. Have not recently followed this end of the business.

I have heard the oil patch is pretty hot in North Dakota these days, but I have not looked at the rig counts.

I would not be surprised if Wood Group supplies quite a bit of equipment to these types of endeavors.

Some players in the Bakken trend are

MRO, KOG, EOG, BEXP, HTE, WLL, PBG.TO, BNP_UN.TO, RYD.V

The biggest there in terms of proven reserves appears to be EOG.

Some of the estimates for the Bakken are much lower than 200B bbl, and some are quite a bit higher. But the USGS report is due out by late April (not sure of the day), so I suppose we'll see.

Excitement is building in ND:
