>>Bob, the Bear Stearns news is unbelievable!!!! I was just looking at it Friday, trying to figure out what the book value might actually be as a sum of the discounted parts.<<

Kate -

I was just speaking of some friends of mine in New York, people who have been heavily involved in the finance business since the 60s. They were telling me that Bear's book value was calculated earlier this week as being around $80 per share.

They were stunned at this development.

And you are right about all the other investment banks and brokerage being counterparties. But a lot of the European ones were getting out of their contracts with Bear all last week. Essentially, there was a run on the bank.

Kate and all - today would be a good day to take a vacation day and just watch the markets.

Oh yeah - Happy Saint Patty's Day - I suspect there will be even more green beer consumed in New York today.
