The UCC is not a racist church. Repeat, not. Go read about the UCC on the web instead of acting like Fox parrots. 36 years of Wright's sermons have been distilled for the most incendiary comments. Some of these comments are over the top, some are no different than those stated by Ron Paul for example. It would appear that in recent times Rev. Wright has perhaps even lost his faculties. But look at this beautiful sermon, "The audacity of hope" sermon. It is a profoundly Christian sermon, one in which there is only goodness. Read it for yourselves and reflect.andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com Posted by: Mike | March 16, 2008 at 06:04 PM ______________________________________________________________ I am NOT African American and have been to Trinity UCC many times when I lived in Chicago. I was welcomed completely and encouraged by many of the members to join. The clips of the sermons on TV/internet are not indicative of the church experience that I had. It seems like a hack job by the conservative media to discredit the Obama campaign. I do admire John McCain for speaking out and telling people that he does not believe that Obama agrees with/condones the inflammatory comments that keep on being show on TV over and over. What he does do is tell the truth. I would advise that before you judge, play the tape all the way out. That is listen to his sermon in it's entirety and in it's context. Hear it for yourself instead of what others have said what was said. Peace. No person, not Sen. McCain, not Sen. Clinton nor Sen. Obama can be held to the standard of being judged by all said by those close to them. Show me any signs that Sen. Obama has ever endorsed the Rev. Wrights fiery words that have offended many, and I'll concede Obama's hope is fizzling. Until then, I still see in him a great chance for our Nation to turn a critical page in our national story, one that contains ugly chapters (past and present) concerning race. Therein lies Obama’s true potential...to further the healing dialog, in respect for all sides, so these long festering wounds can be closed. Wow, I cannot believe the way people are getting all upset and up in arms over this. We have US soldiers being killed every day in Iraq and yet here you all are discounting all the good and unity Obama has accomplished in his life for the words of one preacher. So sad that with a 24/7 media we can't keep things in perspective. Maybe if you had suffered through Jim Crow you might have a different perspective. Posted by: Barbara | March 16, 2008 at 06:44 PM
