I sincerely cannot understand how an intelligent, thoughtful person would willingly sit in a church pew and listen that kind of anti-American message.

Wo, Wo calm down. Where did you read that he sat in the church and listened to what he said. Billy Kristol is putting out crap and you are joining him too.

I suggest you do not come on this thread and spew crap. This is not a crap spewing thread and I am determined to keep it that way.

Go back to the Hillary camp.

You oughta shut up, vote your McCain ticket in November & take your hypocritical act where it belongs, some white church full of Republican patriots. Why do they put up with your theatrics on this thread?

Michael Cummings, I appreciate your thoughtful and respectful response..

I had an email exchange last night with a long time Black acquaintance who is quite successful in his own right..from Arkansas and in his 70s. As genteel and with good humor as one (northerner) can imagine a Southerner to be. But he couldn't conceal his pain at how the media was portraying Wright. He explained to me that the church for Blacks has always been a sacred and safe place where they could vent their frustrations amongst themselves without repurcussions..and by the end of the service beckon to go forth peacefully in pursuit of equality. He wanted to see the ending of these Wright sermons.

He's not aware of any Anti-American actions tied to Wright's speeches..which gives credibility to the notion that no matter how gross we thought those words were, his parishioners knew he was venting versus calling for them to act militantly...His church's massive ministries from child care to education and housing speak to this..

I'm waiting to see what Obama says today..

When you say it doesn't pass the common sense test, it makes me think you haven't every really been part of a tight knit church community. When you put roots down in a community of any sort, over time you get to know alot of the people. Some are angels and some are devils. Some are diplomatic and others are those crazy people that you put up with because they are part of the community. And then most are people just like you and me that say things we agree with and sometimes slip into rhetoric that we simply can't identify with. But the bottom line is that this community becomes an extension of your family. The roots become deep over time. Too deep to sever.

So if one of those in the community, even one who is seen as a leader, says things that you don't agree with, do you uproot from your community? No. Most people simply wouldn't do that. It would be like repudiating your family. Only very jaded politicians would repudiate their family. My family members have at times done things I found reprehensible, but I'd never turn my back on them.

So does it pass the common sense test? Absolutely. It's human nature.
