I did, actually. At the bottom. I thought you were asking me what I thought about liberation theology.

I don't think we can be colorblind yet. It's nice to pretend we could be, but we aren't there yet.

If Obama wants to be a uniter he needs to have a foot in each community- you don't keep a foot in the community by attacking the community. I'm not saying we should play the token game. I happen to like Obama for many reasons that have nothing to do with race- but I do see his race as a plus. After 200 + years of nothing but white males, a change might give everyone the idea that America really is changing in to a less racially charged country. I think it would be hugely symbolic- in a way far beyond what the word "token" encompasses.

I have no idea whether Biden and Ferraro were being racist. I think they misspoke. I've said that elsewhere. What Biden was trying to do was discuss the divide between the ghetto culture in the black community, and the healthier aspects- but he did a very poor job of it, and it's a tough subject for a white person to speak upon, sensitivities being what they are.

?
I didn't change it.

I've no idea what you're talking about. Did you read the wrong post? Best not to blame me for that, I think.

"< edit: I see you changed your post after I had already replied. No more references to electing a "person of color" , etc. lol.....I can see why you changed it. The comment was pretty lame.>"

Interesting Chic Tribune January 21, 2007 article about Obama and Wright...

In part:

REV. JEREMIAH A. WRIGHT, JR.: Pastor inspires Obama's 'audacity'
By Manya A. Brachear | Tribune religion reporter
January 21, 2007

In his 1993 memoir "Dreams from My Father," Obama recounts in vivid detail his first meeting with Wright in 1985. The pastor warned the community activist that getting involved with Trinity might turn off other black clergy because of the church's radical reputation.

When Obama sought his own church community, he felt increasingly at home at Trinity. Before leaving for Harvard Law School in 1988, he responded to one of Wright's altar calls and declared a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Obama reminds me of the ordained next potential ceo of large corporation. He joins a black community to get identity, his first step towards a political career. I expect at this point he was already being mentored by someone. Several early posts identified his indifference to community problems while being a local representative. Mostly, Obama was punching his ticket, and attending church in the black community and getting its minister as another mentor to further his career. I expect this was all part of a plan to move a "high potential black" through chicago politics and perhaps to governorship.
His voting record is weak, never taking very strong positions or stepping out for any cause. rather he blends into the crowd, moving up, not getting damaged politically or causing enemies, rather building on resume.

Just like a new recruit from a top ivy league college, already identified because of association with ceo, family, organizations.. this person is going places. However, he needs to gain experience. Often those experiences will be quick, not difficult, and some manager at each location will make sure he doesn't get in too deep on an issue to get side tracked. His positions throughout moving up the organization must avoid chance of failure, yet expose him/her to further build the resume.

Obama is a shell, empty, he moved through the black community , an experience he never really knew to gain status. He has never been a strong leader in politics and yet he was chosen by the black leaders of chicago to represent them in Washington. In comparison , how many corporate executives have you experienced that will never sign off on a proposal unless several other managers have put their blood on it first. How many would ever take a chance on change that presents some risk, vs continue to manage as is, A failed change would be a disaster vs do nothing means continued safe management.

Obama mentors are trying to decide how to present him going forward. What worked for his advance thus far just blew up.
