Zenbu has got some pictures of Mt Maunganui and Google can give you many too: zenbu.co.nz Zoom in for a closer look.

I have wracked my mind but can't think of anywhere on Earth as good. Yes, there are more idyllic beaches, but for an overall package, with the walk around the Mount, fishing, and all the other accoutrements at Mt Maunganui/Tauranga/Bay of Plenty, I really can't think of anywhere that comes close.

"Fortunate"? I suppose so, though as my father used to say when people said how lucky they were to travel in their retirement, luck had nothing to do with it. It's hard to separate how much is luck and how much is doing things right over a very long period of time. I look on my many years of retirement as just compensation for doing things right while others were impulsive dissolute spendthrift wastrels.
