Physical efficiency has increased a lot since the 70s. We get move more weight the same or a further distance per gallon of gasoline used, or more total acceleration per gallon. But we use more gas because we are trying to move more weight around (both because vehicles are heavier, and because their are more of them). Fuel economy has not greatly improved, but fuel efficiency has.

Productivity per gallon of oil or gasoline used, or per total energy used has gone up quite a bit.


LOL.

And the cost would wipe out other jobs. Its not a free lunch.

We're trading the $440Billion alt energy investment for the Iraq war $440Billion. Did the Iraq war "wipe out other jobs"?
