A.E. Van Vogt. Memories. Eight grade. Our class joined a book club, and I picked "Destination: Universe." I gave an excited book report on one of its stories about a visit by our first astronaut to Venus called "A Can of Paint." Everybody in the class was mesmerized either by the story or by my enthusiasm, I really don't know which. I've lost interest in Sci-Fi books as an adult, though.

Boy, mentioning Van Vogt made me look on Amazon for a copy of that old book of short stories, "Destination:Universe!," so I ordered one. It cost a penny plus S&H. I've read a few of those old stories already. Not only did it bring back memories over 40 years old, but also, it was bittersweet to read it with eyes 40 years older. Eighth grade was by far my best year of school for the 12 I went to.
