You say, if I understand it correctly, that because you have "uncles" who are Wright sympathizers, his statements don't "bother" you. But before that you say that his statements were outrageous.

I took your "bother" to mean "upset" or "agitate." I am not upset by them, not because they are not outrageous but because I am a very mellow gal and almost never experience the emotion of outrage even as those around me are screaming bloody murder. Not experiencing an emotional outrage is not the same as denying that the statements were beyond the pale, aka "outrageous." My talking about my personal emotional reaction in the same post with a critique of the comments caused an understandable apparent contradiction. Sorry about that.

Best I can tell you are making a distinction between the source and the statement. Perhaps that's where we differ.

Yes. I am differentiating and you aren't. Or can't.

I don't think it's possible to understand them without the context of who Wright is and what he is up to.

Just because you can't doesn't mean I can't or that it's not a valid distinction.

And one of the ways we "understand" them is to see them in context.

I see the context just fine. And I understand just fine. But I'm also analytical enough and detached enough to separate the various threads of both his comments and his context for inspection and discussion.

As for your sidebar comment about "the halo effect," you might wish to explain it. I trust it was not a shot, cheap or otherwise.

It wasn't intended as a shot of any type. Your choice as to how to take it. It was intended as a suggestion, a potential explanation, for why you "can't." It was intended not as a shot but something for you to reflect on as you consider your position. It is an example of why my posting articles wouldn't accomplish anything. No outsider is in a position to suggest to you that you may be encumbered by the halo effect.

As for "what [Wright] is up to," you and I probably have a difference there, as well, which is yet another thread running through this.
