I don't give 'em that much cred. I think they know where SOME of the shit is buried, enough to have them wetting their pants, and they have no clue how much more shit is out there. But they do know that the Fed has blown through half of it's reserves already with it's unprecedented actions.

The derivatives market has grown from 50 to 516 BILLION dollars of highly leveraged paper under the complete lack of oversight by the Bush admin. I doubt anyone knows where it all is or what it all is.

When I read that stuff I think this must be a lot worse than they are letting on... you know Treasury knows by now where the shit is buried.


Actually, I think its to encourage foreign investors to come back and buy American treasuries. For the past year, increasingly, foreign investors have bypassed the American market of bonds and treasuries because of the subprime fiasco. I see it as the local chamber of commerce traveling to foreign companies trying to get them to invest in the US.
