What is left unsaid (FYI) Is that Bear Stearns is THE SLEAZIEST of all the players on WS. I wouldn't be surprised if the facility wasn't offered to them because they were so freakin far underwater it would have been like raising the titanic... which the poster goes on to allude to. I don't feel for the Brit that lost his Billion at all, he clearly was in bed with the worst of the worst... and received "the worst".

BTW, all those "Trillions" tossed about are as usual overblown and not explained properly... the poster even says they "OWN" them which makes no sense... they are contracts, some long some short with a "Trillions" being "notional value" of the underlying. In other words if you owned 1000 call options with a strike price of 1000, the notional value spewed about would be 1000x1000 or $1,000,000... even though they might be trading for $1, making them worth $1000.

That's not to say I don't think there is a derivative problem... just saying those numbers don't mean much without analysis.
