This is essentially what is being demanded of Obama. If he said it to a mass audience who roared approval, yes, I would find another dentist. I wouldn't want such a guy poking his finger in my kids or wifes mouths. Or putting his ideas in their head. Obama should have had the same concern for his family. And for sure, he should have had better political judgment if he had political ambitions. Do you have any idea what % of Wright's sermon time over his 20 year career was what you'd call hate speech versus the normal religious education and worship? I don't. Obama has indicated for him it was more along the lines of normal church sermons, with the occassional disagreeable remark thrown in there, that the offensive stuff was more of an anomoly than the norm. You have data to indicate otherwise? Yes I have the congregations testimony that the hate speech was an expected and cherished part of the message. This is one thing apologists for Wright and Obama are overlooking - I suppose because the message conflicts with the desired spin.I'd imagine some members of the church that were in attendance that day did walk away and find another place of worship. I hope so. We know Oprah severed her ties to the church sometime around 1994. And good for her. If Obama had done the same this wouldn't be a problem for him.Others decided this one outburst did not outweigh years and years of what has probably been an extremely rewarding relationship for them, one which is not summed up in 10 minutes of cut and paste video created by the enemies of Barack Obama. There's no reason to think the videos weren't similar in nature to other stuff that went on in Wright's sermons. The congregation didn't seem shocked or offended in those "cut and paste videos" did they? I suspect there is a reason the church has stopped selling videos of Wrights sermons. Do you honestly think every single member of that church is a pig .. Not my choice of words, but they we can form an opinion about the ones shown in the videos enthusiastically rolling in Wright's swill. I think the reaction of the congregation on the Sunday after 911 was sadistic. Its as if they were saying, yeah, America got what it had coming to it.George Bush has plenty of edited montages of him screwing up the English language. Does this mean he is a complete idiot, and we are idiots for electing him? This is the opinion of leftists. It is voiced daily here on SI. No, I don't agree with it, but we're not talking about silly speaking errors here.It means in unscripted public speaking there is always the possibility to make an ass or a fool of yourself. Who's to say this was unscripted? The "chickens coming home to roost" was a quote from Malcolm X - he said it after JFK's assassination. So Wrights saying the same thing wasn't an accident.I believe Obama's statement's about Wright as the guy who spent most of his time in spiritual discussion and occassionally (it sounds like seldomly, but occassionally) went off the deep end on politics. I don't. And I base my opinion partially on the testimony of the TUCC congregation. Besides, even one "God damn America" shouted from a pulpit is one too many for me. Although actually I think he repeated it 3 or 4 times didn't he?And it seems the same to me as your barber who hates marines or your doctor who hates gays - it doesn't mean that you are a jerk because you use them to cut your hair and to get a check up. Guilt by association is a weak attack in a land of individuals. I don't have such a barber or doctor. Anyway, a preacher shouting hate speech from a pulpit is different from a barber with a personal opinion. I don't get why people claim not to see the problem with a man wanting to be President whose long time friend, father figure, and pastor is a hatefilled demagogue who has shouted "God Damn America" from his pulpit. Its ridiculous to argue we should ignore this.
