If you had to (which you don't) I could deal with a shorter range for gasoline powered cars since they can be refilled quickly. Something like a 150 mile range would be ok if you could refill in a few minutes at over 100,000 locations in the US.

But 1000 miles would make the range almost a non-concern, and even 500 would make such cars much more acceptable.
