Vi there is more sinister stuff: Because it is generally not believed that bear was in such a deep trouble, and there is so little evidence about acute problems... I think it was an administered sale.

Not bear was in trouble, but JPM needed a significant contribution to its book value. JPM got the federal guarantee, not bear.

If the fed wanted to save bear, they could have issued them a 30B guarantee directly.

There is one more issue. I have received word from a credible source that every bear put purchased 2 days before the bear debacle has been voided, removed from the accounts.
