Right, short term policies aimed to push the blame for the
bad times on the next guy - the next president, the next
Fed chairman, etc. Volcker was talking about the weak dollar,
decreasing consumption, increasing exports, and that the
process will be painful. Specifically, stabilizing the dollar
so that the process can go on. He did not criticize the Fed
for what they have been doing, even though it is quite
orthogonal to his views, just put out his suggestions,
including a suggestion for government mortgages through
Fannie and Freddie to solve the housing mess. Ben
should listen.
