Rambi, I find this board an amazing place to visit. There is truly a diverse spectrum of opinion here. I suspect when it gets to the general election civility will be more challenging. I am truly sad that Fred did not do better. There is a debate to be made and I fear JM is not up to the task. We must have a full and open debate on the issues of the day.

Rambi (whose posts i read), i partly find this bruha over the rev interesting in terms of reflecting on my place of residence... both in terms of the majority of preachers ideas and that of any number of my neighbors. if i were to disavow and/or not hang out with anyone who had what are to me some truly horrid beliefs and attitudes... i'd be kept busy. now maybe as an 'activist', i should go down the road and take down that rebel flag a neighbor has flying. perhaps i don't as am not in the mood to get shot right yet. or it might be that tho he knows my feelings on the subject, i don't spread that around, so maybe some think i am okay with his flying it. and if he was stuck in a ditch, i'd pull him out. as he would me, even tho he 'hates' non-heterosexuals.

and having come here from a place very different, and open, but having spent summers here growing up... i do try and put things in context. to understand the whys of some attitudes and beliefs. to talk at times about them, but privately, with people. i can't say i've met but a couple people here i consider cruel and vile. them i don't hang with. wouldn't even if they had great imo politics. most people just are a product of upbringing and nothing changes overnight, and they aren't terrible people for sometimes saying hateful things, prejudiced things, wacky things like 'turn iraq into a parking lot'. ooops. i carry on now

perhaps i should be held to a lower standard as i am not running for office. but neighbors are neighbors. and family is family, sometimes not of blood. don't see how we change things by disowning each other.

lil personal bitty there, possibly irrelevant. have deeper broader thoughts that maybe my brain will tap out. inneresting discussion.
