"That whole Jesus thing wasn't thought up until a century or so after his death...

I consider myself agnostic as to the story, and deeply suspicious of the men who shaped it."

There is every reason to be suspicious, especially the more you read of the early history and texts. tho if you know was not thought up until a century later, you clearly know some. will not speculate how much until/if you say.

one thing with obama, he brings an ancient speech to life, that has been kept alive in the black churches. southern white churches, they can get wild, dance and sing, etc. but it is the oration. you know the 'i am' iteration of biblical origin? (maybe earlier, dunno). it is kept alive in much black preaching. notice in obama speeches when he reiterates "we will blahblah, we will thisthat, we will etcetc" or "this time blahblah, this time thisthat, this time etcetc".

you ever read 'the thunder, perfect mind'? a snippet..

For I am knowledge and ignorance.
I am shame and boldness.
I am shameless; I am ashamed.
I am strength and I am fear.
I am war and peace.
Give heed to me.
I am the one who is disgraced and the great one

writ by a woman a very many centuries ago. but how 'modern' it sounds still.

and to many jesus's greatest 'sin' was his acceptance of women into his circle as apostles and prophets. i don't think the 'man' could have been made up. he was too out of his time, too bold. was that latter stuff made up about him that he never said. 'son of man' within the historical understood context did not say what it was later said to have meant. someone existed who said the radical things he did. and if he didn't die for our sins, he still had to die. the powers that be at that time could not let such a one continue, be they jewish or roman. he, whoever he was (and maybe was many) challenged the rule of all the powers-that-be. as do all 'prophets' who stand against the powerful and rich to bring forth the poor and the disenfrachised (be it from race or gender or whatever).

sorry. forgive me my digressions. for a dumb hollergal i think too much sometimes. or blabber too much?
