there is no story. there is not big tadoo re a preacher. ask any southerner who sits in a pew and listens at times, sometimes many times, to things they disagree with. sunday after sunday some person or another or another group is condemned to hell. it is religion. call it 'hate' if you wish. being one mostly always condemned to hell, i don't take it as 'hate'' speech. it is someone's religious beliefs. don't legistate it, i'm fine. so what''s the deal? rev wright is as non an issue as my vein-popping spit-spewing queer-hating preacher is. why do i 'tolerate' him? he is family. and somehwere in his heart of hearts i like to think he knows i ain't really going to hell, if there is such a place. it's called community.

Bob,

I don't see Clinton getting the nomination. I think the powers that be in the Democratic Party have their mind made up for Obama and will do anything to derail a Clinton nomination. My main reason for feeling this way is the fact that they are dragging their feet on Florida and Michigan. They should have had a solution by now. It sounds like part of the problem is that Obama's campaign is dragging their feet on different proposals. Now if the Democrats don't come up with a reasonable solution, and the longer they delay the more options come off the table, they will be effectively disenfranchising the voters in those states and would make it extremely hard for the Democratic candidates in those states.

The main reason that I don't see Clinton getting the nomination is the continued media bias against her. People who say they are for a positive campaign continue to post anything negative in the media about Clinton and fail to see it as a negative. One here has gone as far as talking about throwing Clinton and her supporters out of the Democratic party. I would guess to them Obama is your Albert Belle(at least I am assuming that is who you were referring to in some of your previous posts ;-). I would guess that any candidate other than Obama would have been totally derailed by the church stuff. While it is still in the news, a good part of the media has been sympathetic to Obama and have allowed him to spin this whole thing so that it hasn't totally ruined his campaign or his chances. He did give a great speech in response and that is part of his resiliency. I do think this whole thing raises questions about Obama and his judgement, if these types of sermons were preached continuously as opposed to being rare events. If Obama supporters are being honest and reasonable, they should be able to see how it could be viewed in this manner.

Some are blaming Clinton for the timing of the church tape release. I would say that if Clinton were responsible, they would have done so before Iowa when they would have been most effective. If these tapes were released before Iowa, I would guess that we would be in a far different situation as to who was winning this primary but thems the breaks. Timing is everything. I also agree with you that the Republicans would have loved to have this story in October when it would have had the most potential for damage and Obama would have had the least time for damage control. My take on the release of these tapes is that somebody finally woke up in the mainstream media and actually looked at the tapes and found out what was in them and thought they had a nice story that nobody was covering.

I still think Obama is a very skilled politician and it will be politics as usual. I have heard(not confirmed) that his campaign released pictures of Clinton with Resko and Wright. And if his campaign is looking to disenfranchise the Democratic voters of Michigan and Florida as has been suggested by his campaign's foot dragging on a solution for this, he and his campaign are no different than that of any other politician. If Obama truly wants to bring people together and is so brilliant and has such great judgement, why hasn't he or his campaign proposed a solution that everybody can live with or sit down with the Clinton camp and come up with a solution? I see it as it is not politically expedient to do so for Obama. So, from my perspective, he is willing to disenfranchise the democratic voters in 2 states in order to win the nomination. Doesn't seem like a real positive message from my standpoint.

I still see the main objective of this campaign is to elect a democrat that will hopefully restore some balance to the supreme court. The biggest issue for me is the erosion of personal rights and protections in the country. It frightens me if the SC gets so conservative that many rights will potentially be taken away and the line between separation of church and state will only get more blurry. That is my reason for staying in the fold right now. If we don't get some balance on the court, I will be very worried about personal rights being protected.

Anyway, just my opinion.

Neal

My goodness....your post almost brought a lump to my throat....my poor candidate, Hillary, has indeed been savagely treated by the press.

What upsets me most about it is not that Hillary, who I only marginally preferred to Obama, has been rendered unelectible by the press. It's that the press has swept the country twice before into tragedies. First was the election of Bush, whom the press adored for his cocky, wise-cracking ways. Second was the Iraq war.

So I get viscerally alarmed when the press gets infatuated with either a candidate or a cause. It's similar to a stock. When all the analysts throw out their strongest buy opinions and the stock goes hyperbolic, it's time to sell!!

But what's done is done. At the moment, my assumption is that both Dem candidates are now unelectible. I'm OK with it simply because I believe the economy will continue to deteriorate under McCain and at an accelerating pace. The subsequent debt spiral might tip more congressional races into the Dem category and lead to the majorities that are needed to REALLY turn the country around fiscally.

I also am somewhat OK with McCain because I'm no longer sure that responsible fiscal policy is paramount to the left-wing of the party that seems to be exerting its control over the blue dogs like myself. So more budget deterioration is perhaps the only way to make the left get real about their spending notions.

Bob -

Republicans have made no secret of the fact that they'd prefer to face Hillary in the general election.

Why now? Well, with only two candidates left, and Obama getting close to sewing up the nomination, now would be a good time for anyone wishing to see a Hillary/McCain matchup.

Both Clinton and McCain supporters have every reason to push the Wright story now. I doubt that we'll ever find out which camp is responsible.

Nor do I care.

This may have been one of those rare times that no true orchestration went on. I heard Hannity say a couple of times that he, on his radio show as well as in an interview with Pastor Wright on Fox, had brought the issue into the public forum. But none of the MSM picked up on it, until ABC last week broke it by airing some of the video clips.

I don't watch ABC news so I don't know about this. Maybe someone will cross-check or research it out.

As for the Clinton campaign being behind the news break last week, the timing makes no sense to me. Getting these clips out there much earlier makes sense, lol.

But folks like Chinu will cling to the notion that the Clinton campaign is behind everything....maybe even global warming.:<}
