I have finally found a way for US citizens to own the renminbi, and a number of other currencies, directly without the intervention of an ETF.

This very innovative bank allows depositors to buy and hold a number of currencies in accounts within the US at rates which appear at first glance to be quite reasonable.

The bank also allows an IRA to hold physical gold and silver, provided it is in the form of US coins.

The man behind the bank and its better mousetrap also authors a very interesting newsletter, The Daily Pfennig, which is very sound despite being written in a semi-babble.
