I don't see putting the reverend's life in context, for example, as necessarily enabling. I don't even see doing a close reading of his sermons as enabling- since I would not have known that a white Reagan official was being quoted, if someone else hadn't researched that. The number of really offensive sermons given by this pastor is very small- and I don't find it enabling to say that- I find it only fair. I agree. What to me seems enabling is giving a pass to outrage over a figment. Coddling outrage over the AIDS thing is enabling. The "correct" response to that is "I appreciate how history might make you suspicious but AIDS wasn't an attack on blacks by the US government and Wright was wrong (in both senses of the word) to say so."
