Indeed, it is. And a healthy thing, on balance.

i'm not sure i like the use of 'victim mentality' used against, imo, people who have been 'victims' (a word i avoid in general btw). i find it to be a way of dismissing even true claims of abuse. 'oh, you are acting like a victim. poopoo on you'.

"Victim" is one of those words that has been politically abused. Yes, it has been used to be dismissive. It seems to me that one needs to differentiate (there's that word again) between victimhood and perceived victimhood. And you also have to differentiate between the characterization of someone as a victim and the behavior of that person in the light of the incident. While there's a problem as you say of using it to dismiss, there's also a problem with using it as a universal enabler.
