C'mon Vi, Bear Stearns wasn't acquired, it was expropriated at virtually a zero valuation, and some would argue that even zero was probably overstating its real worth if one properly accounted for the counterparty liabilities

If another half dozen big broker/dealers and/or investment banks are "taken over" in similar fashion at a zero valuation, I doubt that very many investors will see it as positive industry consolidation -- more likely they will see all those dominoes going down as the system collapsing in on itself, which would lead to progressively more dominoes getting knocked over behind them

The only way this can end is having Uncle Fed and ultimately Uncle Sam either cover the markers or abrogate the debts -- the first is USD dilutive while the other is to abandon the currency, so either way the dollar is toast
