From the rumor mill:

A very good friend of mine from childhood tells me that an upper management officer of Merrell (meat packing - with plants in at least Sioux City IA and Sioux Falls S.D.) informs him that independent truckers are abandoning their trucks across the country in large numbers, leaving their keys with the banks. They're giving up on paying the debt since expenses far exceed income, incomes that fall far below their ability to continue to pay off the debt. Since diesel is more widely consumed globally more so than in the US, their cost for diesel is priced accordingly, with domestic factors having less bearing on that price.

I have no way of knowing whether this is true. My friend who is doing house remodeling for this Merrell management officer has inquired twice to confirm this.

Might be valid and worth keeping an eye on any news to this effect.
