The population of Iceland is about 300,000.

So things should be 1,000 times worse in the USA.

I have long envied the Icelanders for being able to read their ancient epics in the original language with little additional study. In one of them, a warrior is killed with a spear as he tries to escape from a house that has been set on fire. He comments on the situation: "They sure do make spears sharp nowadays."

Maybe someone will say, "They sure do make leveraged derivatives dangerous nowadays."

Iceland is a special case, which I wouldn't connect to the U.S. economic problems. Their economy has been considered to be a bubble by some for years, but for other reasons than those that are related to U.S. economic problems.
