Thanks for the link, the Berman article is a fine one. The thought that came to me during the article was that Qutb had to despise the Jews, he was imitating Maimonides too closely. I wonder if he knew Maimonides' work? A modern Orthodox Jew would agree with some of Qutb's points about the schizophrenia of modern life - but would soon diverge because of the Jewish fidelity to a code of law that respects the sanctity of life. For Qutb, Islam means that Allah comes first and men's lives as individuals mean very little.
