I don't think wanting to attack Americans abroad is enough reason to invade a country. It's just not worth the trillions it is costing. I can put a value on human life- and that's too much. On top of that, it's not worth blowing up thousands of Iraqis, many of them innocent, because Saddam might have been involved in a few overseas plots against Americans. That, to me, is a highly illogical expenditure of resources.

And full control of the country? Please- are we going to invade every country where the leader doesn't have full control? Better get your army ready- there must be a lot of countries we would have to put on that list. Unfortunately it's not a valid criteria under international law for starting a war. That's why Bush had to scamper to find the "threat" doctrine- of course when that falls away, he has a problem. He has an even bigger problem in that the country is really disgusted with him and his war, but I'm sure he'll be relieved to know you support him. At his low approval level every supporter helps.

<<<The fact Saddam on hundreds of occasions attempted to murder Americans meant he had to go. The fact Saddam had standing orders to attempt to murder Americans meant he had to go. >>>

Saddam was not the smartest guy around. He had no PR. He was hated by almost everybody.

A case could be made to play hardball. A case could be made to get rid of him.

Did we have to make up this mushroom cloud bs? Nobody bought that.

Once we got rid of him, did we have to screw up the occupation?

Professionals told us we needed several hundred thousand troops for the occupation. Guard the ammo dumps. Get the job done for several hundred billion dollars and get out.

Instead we had to lie about the mushroom cloud, the number of troops needed for the job, the amount of money needed to do job.

When you start lying, bad things happen.
