The teacher had been a teacher in China before WWII. She was the kind of teacher that started before the bell rang, and didn't stop mid sentence when it rang that the period was over. I was nearly a straight A student, with three exceptions...geometry, shorthand, and her class. Even got A's in Chem and Physics....(Must have been mistakes...<gg>) I learned the MOST in her class, and ended up getting a B+ semester overall...and was DELIGHTED. I earned that grade in her class. She wouldn't us take her Honors World History Class, unless we took a Quarter of her Propaganda class. She taught us many things....But two things are easy to talk about. 1) If an article has a name or Byline on it, it does NOT belong on the front page of any paper. It is an OPINION, and not news. Belongs on the Op-Ed page/s. (How many ByLines do we see on the front pages every day....nearly every article...Ego's front and center) 2) To check and see how slanted an article is, write down EVERY Adjective and EVERY Adverb from the article. Leave the skelton of the article. That should be the meat of the story. The Adjectives and Adverbs show us which way the author's mind was directing our attention, or his/her bias. We took 10 major US papers in class every day, and discussed the front page of each (NYT, WaPo, Chicago Tribune, LAT, SFO Chronicle, Christian Science Monitor, WSJ, etc) PLUS we were required to take our own paper at home, had to read it, and had to be prepared at any minute of her class, to discuss that paper's front page in class. You did it, because you DIDN'T want to NOT be prepared in her class!!! It was a wonderful class.....
