I agree.

No matter what the outcome of the war, and I don't claim to know what it will be, we need to agree on some facts about the lead up to the war. I agree with you that the 29% will probably admit no mistakes (Bush himself, if you recall, has a hard time remembering making any mistakes)- but I think for the other 71% of us, the time has come to list up the mistakes, and make sure they don't get made again.

I think the 71% who are unhappy need to realize that we must hold our politicians accountable. Of course Cheney seems to believe that the administration in the White House need not pay attention to the will of the people- but I think the point that they must pay attention should be brought home to politicians in whatever way necessary. This is not a monarchy- and the people should have a voice. The people know this (witness the latest poll where people are darn sure the white house should listen) but I don't think people know how to make their voices, and their displeasure, known.

That, imo, is the big task. The news is only a small part of it. Because people have been mad as hell about Bush for some time now- they just don't know what to do about him. They tried to change things by voting Dem in the last election. That hasn't assuaged their anger, or their discontent. I think we need a better quicker mechanism for disciplining politicians who make the people unhappy. Tarring and feathering is probably too cruel and at this point a little unusual- but something like that would be nice. Something that left no doubt as to the people's displeasure- that's what I'd like to see.
