The Republican agenda of the past 40 years reminds me more of an accelerated history of the 140 year history of the courts of Louis XIV, XV, and XVI where:

- the clergy, aristocrats, and other favorites of the Crown were exempt from all or some taxes;

- everyone was financially devastated by the total destruction of the currency, courtesy of a crank economist lauded by Louis XIV, by the name of John Law, who represented David Stockman and Milton Friedman rolled into one;

- wars were waged on an ongoing basis to satisfy the ego the the reigning king;

- the Treasury was looted by a series of corrupt dealings with friends of the Crown;

- immense war spending took a heavy toll on the economy with many losing their homes.

At least the French were able to enjoy the satisfaction of seeing the last in the line of their "Republican" leaders guillotined.
