Dale,

In my eyes, Gore's return is not possible. Especially since he ran such a poor campaign the last time. I would also guess his negatives are pretty high as well with the stupidity of the internet thing that he was labeled with as well as all the controversy about global warming.

I would agree that another Clinton presidency would draw a lot of flak and potential problems could arise. But it would all depend on how she would present herself as president and how she would deal with the republicans. I think you are fooling yourself if you think that things would be different with either Obama or McCain in there. I know you feel differently but the Obama campaign has been at it pretty good and I don't see a real big difference between his campaign and Clintons campaign. The big difference I see is that everything that comes out of the Clinton campaign is given the most negative spin by the press and they hang onto it. Obama's campaign is given a pass. The latest examples are the statements by BC and Obamas campaign person. BC says something that is spun in the most negative way and is still getting press and play from the whining Obama camp and Obama's person in no uncertain terms call the Clinton McCarthyite but that gets little play and it is already dropped from the press stuff with the explanation that he just got heated up. Also, Obama didn't bother to hold any hearings on the committee that he chaired. People say that it didn't really matter and Obama says he was too busy campaigning to hold hearings. So you could infer that trying to be president for Obama was more important than doing his elected job. The question then can arise, if Obama gets himself elected, when will he start running for a second term?

I bring all this stuff up because I see the Obama campaign as politics as usual. Clinton also has her negative stuff as well which is well documented by everybody here. They are all politicians and are all acting like typical politicians. I honestly don't see one as being any better than the other in this regard.

No matter who gets into the oval office, the other side will test them. How they do in their presidency will depend on how those initial dealings go down. The benefit for the current group running is that they have been in Washington and have seen how things work there so maybe they have a leg up on the previous 2 presidents.

I do think that unless something unravels in the Obama camp, he has the nomination. It will be interesting to see how the campaigns perform with the actual presidency on the line. Any bets on how negative it is going to get?

Neal

"I am fairly confident that either Obama or McCain would bring a different political style to the presidency. I suspect McCain might tack a lot to the center once he has punched all the tickets to get elected."

I agree. My biggest disappointment is that I do not think McCain will be able to articulate the issues as well as Barack. We need a decision based on an informed electorate.

Discussions on the board here show that we have not yet achieved that. John McCain will not help that problem.
