can you stay in your apartment while they repair
the building?
You can come back to foxwoods for the duration.
I would enjoy your company.

Hi Mike, I happened through your old digs and just read your story. Kind of a rude awakening, I'd say. I thought I'd mention something I learned where my father-in-law used to live, which was right across the street from a fire station. The further out one went from the station, the greater the crime. In effect, the 24-hour manning of the station served as a deterrent. So maybe you are getting another benefit...

Glad things worked out OK for you.

Two-alarm blaze damages SW Houston midrise

Firefighters early today battled a two-alarm blaze in a southwest Houston midrise apartment building.

The fire was reported at about 1:40 a.m. at the seven-story Atrium Regency Apartments on Glenmont near Chimney Rock.

The first crews that arrived found flames coming from the roof and a second alarm was called before the flames were brought under control.

Badri Vasista, 20, a student who lives on the sixth floor, said his apartment was in good condition after the fire.

``The police came and told all of us to get out and that there was a big fire,'' he said.

Residents saw black smoke coming from the roof when they got out of the building, he said.

The fire appeared to have been confined mainly to the upper back portion of the building, but no details were available on the extent of the damage. No injuries were reported.

the downside might be that its easier for petty thieves to get into your place. although i guess tx is pretty friendly when it comes to shooting prowlers. btw something similar happened to me in nyc many years ago. i came home from a movie with my wife and saw official vehicles parked across the street and recognized neighbors waiting outside. turned out we had a drug dealer in our building who lived on the second floor. someone had killed him and then set fire to his apartment. Not sure why because a passer by saw the flames from the window and rushed in to try to help. my apartment which was on the 5th floor smelled of smoke for a week but was not damaged.
