Lane3;

So, if you've been panting for the last eight years to get going on health care or some other program, how could you not vote for whomever the Dems run?

You think everyone is "panting" about health care? Hardly. You are looking at the election through your eys.

I don't particularly want bigger social programs- what I'd like to see are better tailored more efficient social programs. I don't even really want more social programs- I just like the money spent differently- not quite so many social programs for the elderly, and more for children- especially since those children are going to have to support a lot of old folks.

I know a lot of democrats, and none of them are really crazy about out of control spending. Of course we'd rather overspend here at home than pour the money down a gopher hole in Iraq, but I'd assume even some republicans can see the merit in that- though obviously not all of them. However that doesn't mean any of us want overspending or unbalanced budgets. Of course I can only speak for the ones I know- there may be fans of out of control social spending out there.

I could be all wet about that

You are....go get a towel. :<)

Seriously, there's a huge chunk of the party, i.e. blue-dog democrats, that are socially moderate and fiscally conservative.

We view the budget deficits and mountainous govt. debt that began with Reagan as irresponsible and dangerous. So do alot of moderate Republicans. As a typical blue-dog, my hope has been that the Dem party would re-define itself and assume this centrist posture. Possibly pulling in moderate Rs in the process.

I don't want any new social programs or any more tax cuts, even for the middle class. We have programs in place that need shoring up.

My only exception would be a single-payer universal health plan, but this is not the direction either Hillary or Obama want to go, soooooooooooooooooo I'm left in a quandary there.
