Power in numbers. I think when you get dramatically marginalized, to the point it is no longer beneficial to pander to you, your power wanes- so yes, the more people in the dem ranks, especially if they are there because the religious right bugs them, the more the reps will have to tack to the center, and away from the religious right. So yes, I see a real benefit in swelling the ranks of the dems- for what I want. Not sure if it would work out for you, but it would work out splendidly for me.
