Yeah, I considered that the merger announcement was on the 18th and the "as of short reporting date" was probably the 15th.

If I were a short and thought that a large number of short shares were going to be cancelled I would want to get rid of my short position as soon as possible, before the stock price started to rise. Under that scenario, if I was short SPSN shares and owned SFUN shares about to be converted into SPSN shares I would want to dump the shorts and keep the SPSN shares for selling at a higher price later.

I guess we'll see what happens to the short numbers in another couple of weeks.

SPSN short shares at 5-6Mio.


I think the reason for Spansion´s high short interest is a very consistent business underperformance relative to guidance and expectations quarter after quarter over a very long period of time. Short interest was at around 16M already in mid-2007.
